Le Pommier Wine Estate: Tranquility Off the Scenic Route

Reading Time: 5 minutes

In the Banghoek Valley of Stellenbosch, Le Pommier Wine Estate offers a relaxed, unhurried escape where nature and hospitality blend seamlessly. In a region often known for grand wine estates, Le Pommier brings a more cozy touch. With beautiful views from their small tasting room, on site restaurant and accommodation on site, it’s a place that invites you to fully unwind and enjoy Stellenbosch at its most serene.

BEST OF LE POMMIER

- Large suites for wedding parties who require space for their teams.
- Chalets next to the tasting room for easy access.
- Beautiful views of the Banghoek mountains.
- On site tasting room and restaurant with private parking.
- Child friendly.

Tasting Room with Uninterrupted Views

Le Pommier’s wine tasting room is a welcoming space that celebrates the surrounding scenery as much as the wine itself. Inside, there’s a relaxed, intimate feel that celebrates much of South African art and decor. With floor-to-ceiling windows that let you soak up the changing light and landscape, the room opens onto sweeping views of vineyards and distant mountain peaks, delivering some of Banghoek’s most beautiful views.

Le Pommier’s wine selection is delightful, capturing the essence of Stellenbosch’s terroir with a touch of modern ease. Their Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and refreshing—ideal for enjoying while gazing out over the valley.

Their Chenin Blanc, meanwhile, offers a fruit-forward, slightly vibrant profile that perfectly complements the sunny landscape. Le Pommier’s red wines are equally enjoyable, with a Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that are both rich yet approachable.

The tasting experience here is informal and friendly, guided by knowledgeable staff who ensure you feel welcome and informed without making the experience feel stuffy or overly curated. Le Pommier offers 3 wine pairings: pizza, soup or South African food pairing – this is the one we recommend. Without food costs R55 and with a pairing, R140.

Spacious Suites Overlooking a Serene Pond

During our visit we noted there were 3 sets of accommodation at Le Pommier. Garden cottages outside the tasting room, two self-catering units and larger suites situated just down the road (within the farm), where we stayed.

Le Pommier’s semi-detached suites provide the perfect retreat for bridal parties looking to get ready for their big day. They don’t look very glamorous from the outside, but inside the suites are surprisingly spacious and include a lounge area with television, mini-fridge and en suite bathroom.

Tip: Make sure to have a bath during your stay as the tub is deep and had some of the hottest water we’ve experienced at a hotel, allowing us to settle in and truly unwind.

Overlooking a tranquil pond complete with a gently bubbling fountain, each suite is thoughtfully designed to offer a blend of comfort and calm. The fountain’s soft sound, combined with the willows that tickle the water’s surface creates a quiet oasis. While there is a pool available, we didn’t try it as the wind was picking up and we didn’t want to catch a chill.

Dining: Elevated Home-Style Comfort

Le Pommier’s on-site restaurant offers a unique take on home-style South African cuisine, where familiar flavors are presented with warmth and a subtle elegance. There are two outside dining areas – an enclosed front porch and a tabled courtyard out front. We opted to sit inside as we weren’t sure what the mosquito factor would be like; and were very comfortable.

The restaurant’s atmosphere is cozy and quiet, with the staff providing calm, attentive service. The downlighting made it a feel a little tense but once we were seated we found it to be unpretentious and relaxing while quiet.

We hadn’t anticipated enjoying the food nearly as much as we did. Al-John had a pizza for dinner and I had ribs and veggies, they were both excellent and surpassed our expectations due to the quality of ingredients and execution. The following morning we had an excellent English breakfast, one of the best in the valley in our experience.

Overview: A Slice of Stellenbosch Serenity

Le Pommier offers a blend of laid-back charm and refinement, set against one of Stellenbosch’s most beautiful backdrops. The staff are attentive and ready to share recommendations for nearby hikes, vineyard visits, and scenic drives.

Whether you’re seeking convenient accommodation for a wedding weekend away or access to both the Franschhoek and Stellenbosch winelands, Le Pommier is conveniently located and allows easy access to the neighbouring areas.
