AI Policy

At We Live in Cape Town (and our associated travel content platforms), our goal is to share real experiences, honest insights, and personally crafted travel stories. To ensure our content is polished, accurate, and presented professionally, we use a range of modern digital tools – including AI, in our workflow. Here’s exactly how and where AI is used, and equally importantly, where it isn’t used.

1. All Content Begins with a Real Human

Every blog post, article, review, and opinion piece is based on real experiences, real research, and real writing — created by a human (me).
AI does not generate articles from scratch, and no automated systems publish content on our behalf.

2. AI is Used as a Tool, Not as a Creator

AI assistance may be used to:

  • Help with brainstorming, structuring ideas, or improving clarity
  • Suggest alternative wording
  • Assist with grammar and spelling
  • Summarise our reference notes

All final writing is edited, rewritten, fact-checked, and approved by a human. No AI-generated content is posted without personal oversight, verification, and my own voice.

3. Photography is 100% Human-Captured.

All photos on this blog are taken by real humans using real cameras or smartphones.

4. Image Editing Uses AI-Enhanced Tools

We use tools like Lightroom Mobile and other editing software that may include AI features, such as:

  • Object removal (e.g., removing noisy background distractions)
  • Noise reduction
  • Smart masking
  • Basic enhancement tools

These tools help clean up images, but the photos themselves are not AI-generated or fabricated. No scenes, people, or locations are artificially created, unless obviously so and stated as such (think internet memes). They will never attempt to depict a real life circumstance.

5. Transparency & Authenticity Matter

We believe that travel content should be trustworthy. If an image or portion of content ever uses AI in a way beyond simple editing or enhancement, it will be clearly disclosed.

6. Our Priority is Editorial Professionalism

AI is treated like any other tool:
Useful for efficiency, but never a replacement for real storytelling, lived experience, or personal judgement.
