Meet Meg & Al-John
Welcome to We Live in Cape Town! Formerly known as “Got the Passports?“, we began our travel writing journey during the pandemic (ironic – we know!). The love of our own travels sparked our creativity, driving us to develop our own articles and vlogs.
Today, we share authentic, local insights with curious travellers looking to shift their armchair travels to real-life South African experiences. Al-John is responsible for the beautiful photography and Meg compiles all the content.
It’s also important to share that we are not influencers. We create long form, long-lasting content that builds value over time, mostly for over 30’s seeking insightful travel tips.
There’s no place like the Mother City and we really hope to inspire you with our personal travels, stories of life in Cape Town and our passion for the arts.

What Makes Us, Us…
Proudly Capetonian, Meg grew up between Namibia and Cape Town, while Al-John is a Sea Point local through and through.
Meg is a Junior Paid Media Director at a global advertising agency, while Al-John manages Discord communities for a video game company by day and DJ’s Drum & Bass by night.
After a decade of blogging (Boring Cape Town Chick), the pandemic gave us time to rethink how we spend our free time – and we found ourselves looking back at our favourite memories and realised just how much travel gives back long after the trip is over.
Coming from South Africa, where the currency is weak, but the quality of life is high, our travel decisions are shaped by finding real value. We wanted to share the tips and experiences that help us make the most of every trip.
We also work full-time in international markets and understand how important an unforgettable South African experience is for international travellers – not to mention making the most of precious annual leave.
With Cape Town’s international popularity soaring, we’re here to share a local voice in a cluttered world. WELCOME!

Keen to Collaborate?
we’d love to connect!

“It’s a funny thing coming home.
Nothing changes. Everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same. You realize what’s changed, is you.”
