How to Adopt an African Penguin
Tucked away along the False Bay coastline lies a gem that often steals the hearts of visitors: Boulders Beach, home to a thriving colony of African penguins. If you’ve ever dreamed of strolling along pristine beaches with the comical yet endearing company of penguins, this is the place to make it happen.
Unfortunately, sometimes penguins need to visit the doctor and get a little love to get back on their flipper feet. The doctors aka vets work at SANCCOB – Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds who focuses on research, rehabilitation and education.

You can now adopt and name any penguin for R600, which will assist in giving them the very best chance to return to the wild. Your donation helps cover the cost of fish, medication, water and other essentials to ensure their release back into the wild.
What You’ll Receive
- E-mail certification of Adoption.
- Special letter of thanks from “your” penguin.
- Adoption valid for one year.
Conditions
Unfortunately, guests won’t be able to visit their penguins as they are on water-bed rest for the duration of their stay. However, if you stay in touch with SANCCOB they will let you know the release date of “your” penguin. Once your bird is released, you’ll be able to adopt a new one and help them too!
