The Mimosa Club: Florentin’s Bottomless Mimosas

Reading Time: 4 minutes

I’m not sure how we ended up loving mimosas as much as we do, but when they’re bottomless and they come with four good girlfriends (plus one very sweet baby), it’s the kind of Sunday that makes you remember why you live in Cape Town in the first place.

Our exploration of mimosas took us to Florentin, a centrally located spot that feels tucked away – quite the achievement in the centre of town. With plenty of parking out front and the buzz of guests checking into the attached hotel, it’s a great pick for a lazy Sunday bunch that requires no rush. With tinted windows, it feels like a snug in the heart of Loop street.

Not Your Average Cape Town Vibe

The setting of Florentin is slightly unexpected as it’s adjacent to a hotel lobby. Naturally, Cape Town has a ton of hotels, but it’s unusual for it to be the base of a Cape Town café scene. But there was something oddly charming about watching guests roll in with luggage and roll out with stories.

The large windows bring in floods of natural light, and the warm-toned interiors give it a quietly stylish energy. We were a group of four adults and a baby, and our table was more than spacious enough to fit a high chair, several rounds of brunch dishes, an array of baby toys and a steadily replenished tray of mimosas.

It’s a small detail, but the breathing room made a big difference – no elbow bumping, no reshuffling plates to make space. Just easy, thoughtful hosting from the start.

The Food (and the Gluten-Free Notes)

The food at Florentin has a focus on middle eastern and mediterranean flavours with aromatic spices and it leans toward elevated café fare with a gently spiced twist. Think all day breakfasts with soft cheeses, chickpeas, eggs, ground meat and a touch of seafood. Instead of basil or rocket, you’ll have coriander or labneh instead of butter. Delicious alternatives to the usual breakfast.

I ordered the Mediterranean Breakfast (R170 / $9.60), which included za’atar eggs, beef meatballs, shakshuka, crispy potatoes, avocado, labneh, tahini, zhug, and sourdough (switched for Gluten-free at R20). My intention was to get a sense of what they do across a few ingredients and this served that purpose.

I enjoyed the unique flavours although the presentation could be improved. The portion was quite generous but didn’t read as such due to the giant plate (you can tell by the huge portion of avo!).

Bottomless Mimosa Score: 10/10

Initially I was a bit concerned as the glasses were quite small, but actually they were the perfect size to keep the mimosas cold and sparkly.

And the rounds? Florentin doesn’t play stingy! The mimosas flowed with a natural rhythm – generous, relaxed, and without anyone needing to gesture awkwardly for top-ups.

Our waiter matched our drinking pace perfectly and kept us delighted throughout the morning and that sense of ease really shaped the experience. We came for mimosas and didn’t leave wondering if it had been worth it. It was. Limitless for R280! An absolute steal.

Lasting Impression

Admittedly, we were also the last patrons to leave at 3pm on Sunday, their closing time. But even then, they weren’t trying to kick us out and were happy for us to finish up as they cashed up.

Florentin is a strong contender for your next girls’ brunch – especially if you’re after a place where you won’t be rushed, squashed, or shortchanged on the mimosas. With their philosophy being, “…we believe food is more than just a meal – it’s a celebration of culture, heritage and connection”, we can affirm this philosophy was delivered through our experience.

Great food, excellent service, and an unexpected location that somehow works. Would recommend for a 4 – 6 group of friends or family looking to while away the day. Enjoy!
