I’m currently doing some mooching around, looking for hotels for my trip to London in August. My mom and I are going on a girls’ trip to watch Christina Aguilera out in the English countryside and would like to make the train trip there easy by staying in Kings Cross. I’ve left notes below that are my genuine first impressions and what I actually thought about while looking to book. Hopefully it helps someone!
Which are your Favourite Hotels Near in Kings Cross?
At this stage I’m not the biggest fan of the Kings Cross area as I just didn’t enjoy being in such a busy space during my holiday. In saying that, I’ve been searching on Instagram and I see a whole lot of fun activities are available in the area these days, which could be fun to check out. So I’m open to having my mind changed!
Previous Experiences
I had previously stayed at the Angus Hotel in 2017, one block away from King’s Cross – in the smallest hotel room I have ever experienced in my life! It was on basement level (so low, dark windows) and I could LITERALLY only put my suitcase on the floor or be in the bed. Those Harry Potter memes really fell into place this day!
It did have it’s own bathroom, which I respect, however, in 2026 that same hotel room now costs nearly R6000! Absolutely madness for a dorm room type offering.
Which are your Favourite Hotels Near in Kings Cross?
I’ve been investigating on TikTok and Instagram and have picked out a few trends:
Kaya Great Northern Hotel
- Pro: Popular with influencers, which means they’re looking for guests (fairly low reviews on booking . com).
- Con: Their lower floors have very small floor space, which makes having 2 suitcases tricky.
- Note: It’s interesting that they would promote a 5 star hotel – particularly for their age group.
The Standard Hotel
- Pro: That rooftop bar looks like it has the most amazing views of Kings Cross. They also have a late check out at 12pm.
- Con: They have weird shaped windows, quite submarine like. Hate the headboard.
- Note: The Standard Hotel is a five star hotel so the service and cleanliness should be good.
PREMIERE INN ST PANCRAS
- Pro: Usually clean and affordable.
- Con: When I click the “official site” link from the Search ads on Google maps, the website loads without buttons!
- Note: I usually stay in a Hub or Premiere Inn in Bricklane or other parts of the country, so I was open to staying in the Kings Cross version.
POINT A HOTEL ST PANCRAS
- Note: The Point A Hotels are giving me the impression that they are competition to Premiere Inn.
- Pro: More affordable.
- Con: The button on the headboard make me wonder how many people’s hair has gotten stuck in there.
