Inner City Convenience at the Pullman Hotel, Cape Town
With it’s triangular roof, the Pullman Hotel stands as a beacon of convenience and modern comfort. Its inner city views and close proximity to the city’s bustling attractions is a fantastic base for both business travellers and leisure seekers wanting to explore Cape Town.
Central Security
The hotel provides off street parking that already provided a unique view of the city – which, we as locals, love. Seeing our city from a new perspective always intrigues (it’s why we never get sick of Cape Town!) and entices us to keep exploring. After gawking for the first 10 minutes, we left the car and made our way towards reception. The building is well sign-posted so we fairly easily made our way to the ground floor.
Stepping into the foyer at the Pullman Hotel, the dark, contemporary design errs mixes modern African style with a throwback of “Great Gatsby”. The lobby, adorned with sleek furnishings and local artwork sets the tone for a stylish stay.
The friendly staff is always on hand to offer a warm welcome and assist with any needs, making you feel right at home.
Spacious Accommodations
The rooms at the Pullman are designed with a blend of modern aesthetics and practical amenities, ensuring a restful stay. The bed was one of the best we’ve stayed in of late and the floor-to-ceiling windows offer engaging views across the skyline, while filling the room with natural light.
Our suite included a mini fridge (something we’re becoming less interested in compromising on), coffee machine, iron, ironing board, safe, slippers and gowns. The en suite bathroom was large with a both sizeable shower and bath tub.
Most importantly, the room felt exceptionally clean and this is something we don’t like to compromise on in South Africa.
Dining Delights
Food lovers will delight in the hotel’s dining options. The Pullman’s restaurant, The Avenue, offers a menu that showcases both local and international flavors, crafted from fresh, local ingredients and cater to variety of dietary needs including gluten-free (me!).
Start your day with a sumptuous breakfast buffet featuring a variety of pastries, fruits, and hot dishes. For dinner, indulge in a carefully curated selection of South African wines paired with gourmet meals that highlight the region’s culinary diversity. Alternavively, the hotel also hosts lunch events over weekends including Christmas Day lunch in Cape Town.
For a more casual experience, the hotel’s bar is a great spot to unwind after a day of exploring. Sip on a handcrafted cocktail or choose from an array of local beers while enjoying the cosy inner-city views and warm swimming pool.
Breakfast Included
Breakfast at the Pullman Hotel in central Cape Town is a delightful experience that far surpassed our expectations. Al-John has travelled a lot for his DJing and hotel breakfasts are his favourite. He gave it the stamp of approval which really means something as this man is fussy!
The spread offers an impressive variety, from freshly baked pastries and artisanal breads to a selection of seasonal fruits and gourmet cheeses. Guests can savor hot dishes made to order, including classic South African favorites like bobotie-inspired omelets.
The chic dining area boasts panoramic views of the city, providing the perfect backdrop to start your day. With attentive service and a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, it’s a breakfast that caters to both indulgence and health-conscious choices.
Wellness and Relaxation
If relaxation is on your agenda, the Pullman Hotel has you covered. The fitness center is equipped with state-of-the-art machines, allowing you to maintain your workout routine even while traveling. After your workout, consider a visit to the spa for a rejuvenating treatment, where skilled therapists offer a range of massages and beauty services designed to melt away stress.
Please note: we did not test these services while we were staying as the close proximity to city meant we went up the Table Mountain cable car instead!
Inner City Noise
We knew when we arrived at the inner city hotel that it would be quiet because Sunday mornings are famed for their stillness in central Cape Town (this is often when you’ll fun into music video or music shoots due to the stillness of the city).
What we didn’t expect was the silence on Monday morning! Totally certain that we’d wake up to teams of people streaming through the city with busy taxi’s hooting and yelling their familiar cries, the exact opposite happened. The city remained really quiet around the hotel, with absolutely no noise impacting our stay at all.
A Warm Welcome
5 Star Review
While the hotel is a categorised as 5 star, I have seen a few Google reviews saying the contrary. I would agree that the hotel itself isn’t quite 5 star, just because it’s not in the most glamorous location and feels too urban to be 5 star. I would, however, say that the service was 5 star because every member of staff we engaged with from the restaurant staff, reception, hostesses, security, were all incredibly professional, knowledgable and helpful.
