Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, in Cape Town, remains one of the jewels of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), offering breathtaking landscapes and a deep connection to nature.
As of March 2025, new membership options make it even easier for Cape Town residents to enjoy Kirstenbosch and other SANBI gardens. The National Membership grants entry to all SANBI gardens, including Kirstenbosch for:
R800 per year for individual adults
R600 for students and pensioners
R400 for scholars.
Couples can join for R1200 per year.
While families (2 adults and 3 children, or 1 adult and 4 children) can enjoy full access for R1600 per year.
Children under six enter national botanical gardens for free, making it an ideal destination for family outings.
For those primarily visiting Kirstenbosch, a regional membership is a great option. Membership benefits extend beyond unlimited visits. Pensioners enjoy free entry on Tuesdays, and members receive a 10% discount at the Kirstenbosch Gift Shop and Happy by Nature.
“A SANBI Gardens membership offers more than unlimited access to these breathtaking spaces; it is an investment in conservation, education, and community well-being,”
Nontsikelelo Mpulo, Director of Marketing, Communication, and Commercialisation at SANBI.
Beyond its beauty, Kirstenbosch plays a crucial role in biodiversity conservation, environmental education, and the well-being of visitors. Every membership directly contributes to maintaining these cherished spaces and supporting the dedicated staff who care for them.
